Description
The 98C is the successor to the Model 98. The 98C is considered by many to be one of the most reliable markers ever created. It requires relatively little maintenance.
The 98C is known for its ease of use, durability, and reliability, making it an appealing choice for newcomers to the sport. The simple design allows players to play the game, rather than constantly monitoring their equipment. Of course, as a player finds his/her niche on the field, aftermarket upgrades and modifications allow a 98C owner to completely customize their marker to their playing style. Like all Tippmann markers, the 98C sports an iron-sight system commonly found on firearms. The sights can prove useful depending on the conditions. By depressing the front sight, the player can unhinge the feedneck, allowing for easy access to the firing chamber, thus allowing for fast in-game cleaning. Overall, the 98C is an adaptable woodsball marker, excellent for newcomers and advanced players alike.
Contrary to what most believe, the 98 Custom can be modified for speedball. 98 Customs have the ability to be upgraded with an electric bolt and board, and take advantage of a power loader.
Another feature of the 98 series of guns is their clam-shell design. By removing the six bolts on the left side of the marker you can dismantle the gun into two halves or shells. This allows users a very easy method of cleaning and maintaining the internals of the gun. The only part not revealed or easily cleaned is the valve, but this part is generally low maintenance.
The marker is now being offered with Tippmann's Anti Chop Technology(ACT) system.
Upgrades and Accessories
Being one of the most customizable markers in the world, the Tippmann 98 custom has a large number of upgrades and accessories. Ranging from more accurate barrels to consistent regulators. A list below highlights some of the more important upgrades that will improve your marker performance the most.
- Flatline Barrel System - Adds extended range and accuracy to the 98c by creating a backspin on the paintball.
- Response Trigger System - Uses excess gas from firing to return the trigger. Finding the sweet spot allows a "Full Auto" effect.
- Cyclone Feed System - Uses excess gas from firing to cycle a spining agitator to feed a paintball into the chamber after each shot. Allows 15 Bps.
Custom Pro
The Tippmann Custom Pro is an upgraded version of the 98 Custom, coming out of the box it includes a double trigger (two-finger trigger), a drop-forward which moves the tank down and forward, changing the center of gravity making the paintball gun balanced, and an 11-inch high-performance stone-honed barrel, and ACT. The paint on the Custom Pro is also scratch resistant, and most Custom Pros available now come with the realtree camo upgrade. Although it is approximately $30 USD more than the 98 Custom, all these accessories separately would cost a recreational player about $75 USD. There is a common misconception about the Tippmann Custom Pro's electronic Trigger. The Custom Pro does not use the E-Grip, instead it uses the E-Trigger system.
