Reno7's 98C

This is my 98C. I am in the process of modding it into a precision 'sniper' platform. Pictured is the design as of 12/2007. There are a few more adjustments in the works including a new barrel, Blew Tube powertube, titanium hammer, and a switch to compressed air.

Almost all the parts shown were procured through Opsgear, save the sight and sling. The shroud is custom painted and then I wrote on it, applying quotes, designs, and insignia through deft use of a black sharpie.

Her name is 'Vera' and she'll be my primary marker for atleast another few years. It currently weighs about 10 pounds with a full hopper, for those who would comment about it being heavy. For me, that's just right.

Nice marker!
Vera wouldn't happen to be a Firefly reference would it?

Re: Reno7's 98C

KrypotonitE: That barrel is an OPSGEAR M4 'OPERATOR' 14 inch. I got it for $40, but they're no longer available through Ops. They're probably available used out there somewhere. All told, to get her to the pictured configuation I've put between $450 and $700 dollars into her. I stopped keeping track a long time ago. I do know that I've got a $30 J&J 14in in the mail, and will be putting another 100 to 150 into her before she's 'done'. That doesn't include a CA tank either, for the record. That doesn't include my hand done custom work, like polished internals or paint. When she's finally retired (who knows when that'll be) I'm easily looking at a $700 to $900 98 Custom. What can I say? Performance isn't cheap.

Snake Eyes AJ: Yeah, it would, my friend named her when he first saw her like this. I decided to run with it. As a side note, my Ariakon ACP 2.0 is named 'Vala', from the last few seasons of SG-1, but I haven't taken any pictures of her.

Curly Fry: The short version is that the barrett mag costs too much, and I ended up getting one of the last Ops SMG mags for $21 instead.
The long story is that I considered the .50, however in addition to the expense of the mag, and the added weight, I decided that the .50 was... incongruent with my shooting style.
I like to have a lot of points to hold or rest my marker, and the .50 would have eliminated the rest point behind the grip, but ahead of the gas line, this would be very bad for me, I'd be losing a firing stance.
Beyond that, I decided that I wanted a more sparce look, as a kind of advanced SMG, which was then modified for sniper duty, as opposed to a true sniper rifle.

Re: Reno7's 98C

Not going for the Barrett m-82a1 look, just based on the Barrett. Besides, I'm in the process of lightening the marker, adding weight. The 50cal would be the opposite of what I'm trying to do.

Oh, and anyone who suggests I get a Bossman mag is gonna get tracked down and stabbed. So don't even think about it. I'm sick of hearing it since I like Vera the way she is.
