I've seen chat boxes (and used them on forums I've ATTEMPTED to run) on other forums and was thanking, why not get one onto 98OG?

Some people might argue it takes away from the forum, but in my experience it keeps more people interested in the website. Lots of new people show up, post, and aren't heard from again because it didn't seem there wasn't a whole lot going on.

Thoughts?

Just to tell you it has been discussed many times on the other forums. A chat box would take up to much bandwidth and it would cost money(Not" SO MUCH MONEY" but enough that it would be hard to pay for) to do it.

Problem with chat boxes, and I have tried to discourage it unless it's localize when everyone is usually on at the same time, is that most of the time, there is hardly anyone on. The Bear is correct the bandwidth becomes a problem and it can become costly. Besides, there is Skype, MSN, Yahoo, Google so why not use the tools that are already out there. Isn't that why we put it in our profile? They don't cost anything to run and plus you can have multiple conversations with them. Better leave it to the pros because at least it doesn't take up server bandwidth.

I get enough talk with MSN on a daily basis considering I've got close to 900 contacts and still counting in the last few months. Mostly because Smart Parts is running out of business and it's getting harder and harder to find people with the knowledge for the Smart Part products. Though a good portion is just the anime community I've been part of for a long time.

I've been wondering if that was a Ghost in the Shell pic in your avatar. Seems that last sentence just answered that for me, haha. I am partial to the Metal Gear Solid franchise personally, compared to that anime. I wish they did an anime based on Metal Gear, but I know it would more than likely end up being a total fail if they tried and would end up angering me, lol.
