I dont know if its easy/possible to do but on some other forums I browse a lot, you can turn off the swear filter just for you. Its an optional thing and you have to change it yourself. I think it would be cool if we had an option like that on this site. I for one hate the asterisks so its nice to be able to turn them off.

I dont like the swear filter personally...too pg13....no thank you...i'm an adult, not a child...but thats just the way it is because there are children (sorry, people under 18) on these forums and its just easier to sensor to pervent abuse/etc.

badmagik, i've been on forums where where swearing/flaming/drug talk/sex talk/ etc is permited in the off topic sub forum...its either really cool to have or its out of control.....my 0.02/c

The option would just allow you as in yourself to turn it off. You would be able to see the swear words but if you have it turned on it would be censored. This leaves it up to the person, if they want to see them then they can if not then they can have it censored.

The OG forums strive to maintain a PG-13 atmosphere to be family friendly for all age appropriate users to see. This is why we have enabled the language filter option in the forum software. As Kanuck said. Thank you for the suggestion.

I honestly don't mind either way, but the forums can still main tain a PG13 set up, Ive done it with other boards before where users had the option to turn off/on the filter, it really would be up to the user and its there choise if they want to filter the language or not, however one thing I did was set up the forums (i know it may require some codeing) so any account that was under a certain age lets say 18 for the sake of arguement the option for the filter to be turned off would not appear, but if the person was over 18 (19 or older) the option would be there but the filter would still filter out serious words like the word F....<you know what goes here>....K and any topics to "sex" or other non PG 13 items would be limited to a special area OR not allowed at all...

I personally don't mind the swear words just as long as its not in ever post i read, IE once and a while the sh word, and things like that...but I agree its best to keep a PG13 setting and even if this option became available the "eff" word might be one to keep filtered period...

so really to me either way its not a big concern...

I dont understand how if its an option to turn it on or off it changes the site from being PG13? it would be a personal option.

We're working with / using an older version of V-Bulletin. The option is either on or off for the whole forum. We chose which words are to be filtered. So we're limited to the current configuration that is in place. If your wanting to post text that would trip the language filter. I recommend the use of another forum to do so.
