Thread bumping and such

I've noticed that this site has an overabundance of necroposting, IE, posting in a thread that is 6 months+ years old, sometimes as old as 2008!! Most of time they are threads of someone asking for an opinion on some product he's looking to buy, and has long made up his mind and bought it. It fills the forum with worthless posts.

Now, I have noticed a problem with the site that probably contributes to this. I will see on the home page, in the recent posts list, about someone posting in a thread recently when really it was a few days ago, or more. Its a pretty serious bug and it's really annoying.

It's also problematic to sites that have less traffic than others. I can go on Nation and post today and 24 hours later, have it on page 27.......

I don't think it's a "bug" in as much as it is people need to post more often than they do.

No, its definitely a bug. I've seen it where it says that I have posted in a thread at, say, 9 AM, but then I click on the thread and my last post was the night before.

Do any of these threads have polls attached to them? If someone votes in a poll, but doesn't post in the thread, the thread gets bumped up. So, technically, a thread from 2009, with a poll, could be bumped to the front if the person who voted in the poll does not post in the thread.

Clear as mud?
