PM8 painting?

So I just picked up a PM8 and am looking to paint it. I was thinking of going snakeskin camo but I would like to have that proto-jewel (the logo at the back of the body) still be silver.. can it be removed?

and for some gunporn:

Not sure if it can be removed but you can always mask it off when you paint. Nice marker BTW.

Re: PM8 painting?

I have tried using masking tape.. but the edges always seem to be a bit "uncrisp" when doing that..

And i started considering doing some watertransfer printing if i can find a cheap source of a starterkit in EUROPE....

oh and thanks... Haven't shoot it yet (FSDO on the DM board inside and the Virtue board had a broken battery harness) but I seriously need to put a drop on it (the tank was about 2-4" too far back) and change the trigger..

Re: PM8 painting?

Try finding a shorter tank before putting a drop on it. Drops make the marker feel funny and will place it high.

I would try to get it painted professionally if you can. No reason to ruin a good marker. I would look to see if you can buy new jewels, if you can pull that one off and just get a new one.

Re: PM8 painting?

I saw some pictures where the jewels were taken off... perhaps just with a hotgun? The thing about looking for "rare" things is that most of the time I have to order it from the states and the shipping to the eu is usually bigger than what I pay for the part itself

I think getting it painted professionally would cost more than what i payed for everything in that picture..

Re: PM8 painting?

One thing to think about is to talk to a couple of paint shops about painting it for you and then you promoting the shop, a quid pro quo thing, like a sponsorship. never know one may go for it. Years ago my dad had his car painted like that and he let them basicly sign the car, hardly noticed it but it brought them business and got him a new paintjob for free.

Re: PM8 painting?

Have someone professionally paint or ano it for you. It is different for people to paint, lets say a tippmann, by themselves because tippmans have considerably rough surface for paint to stick. But you got yourself a glossy speedball gun, just your average home spray job isnt going to last on that thing. I would hate to see ya ruin your gun.

Re: PM8 painting?

There's a lot of different options when it comes to painting markers. As Phil pointed out above, speedball guns generally have very smooth bodies. As such, annodizing is usually the preferred method. It's probably the most expensive way to this gun, but it will probably look the most natural.

I have seen some speedball guns with really good Duracoat jobs done to them. The problem with duracoat and most other paints is that it generally becomes progressively more difficult to do detail the cheaper the kind of paint you use.

Another option I've heard of, but don't know much about is powdercoating. When the T8 came out, I saw a lot of people talking about it being an effective way to re-finish them, but I didn't ever follow up on the results of those attempts. :P

And btw, Richard will slaughter the world!
