Using Platinum FL shroud on non-plat FL?

Hi,

Two things really, first of all I want to double check that the plat flatline shroud would fit a non-platinum flatline barrel? They're the same right? This is on a plat marker anyway.

Secondly, anyone know where I could get just the shroud? I have the barrel already, I just need the shroud because the older style shroud won't fit to my 98c platinum...

Thanks!

I don't know whether it would fit or not because of the original FL being longer. But you tippmannparts.com or tippmannpros.com should carry the shroud by itself.

Re: Using Platinum FL shroud on non-plat FL?

the original FL barrel is like 1.5inches longer or so...

the original 98 FL barrel actually works...the newer (same 'barrel' as the a5 and x7) is less forgiving

so given the older is longer and the new shroud is shorter, you "should" be able to somehow bojang it...i'm not sure about the profile, but the height offset is probably the same

#C Flatline Shroud - Right [98 Flatline Platinum Series Barrel] TA02071

#D Flatline Shroud - Left [98 Flatline Platinum Series Barrel] TA02072

for those two, it'll cost you 45 USD

may be better to call tippmann directly and give them a sad story of how you broke your Platnum FL shroud and you need a new set....

Re: Using Platinum FL shroud on non-plat FL?

Oh that's awesome, didn't find those two, thanks!

Seeing as I picked it up cheap off eBay, I was thinking I don't mind trying (and possibly failing) to "bojang" the original FL shroud to fit my platinum marker.

The issue is the heights are different - so while the plat shroud would obviously fit my marker, it may not play nice with the barrel.

But I think I can wangle the original shroud to fit, by hacking and slashing it a bit.

The most problematic part might be the feedneck release catch - as with the height issue, the button on original shroud is permanently pressing down on the release catch enough to free the feedneck - which is somewhat problematic when my paintballs are trying to get through to the marker; not the floor!

I'll give it a go though, it's only a waste of the plastic part of £30 (which to be honest is the lesser part) if it goes wrong - in which case I can either ring Tippmann with a sad story, or try to make my own shroud.

Or just leave the FL barrel bare and funky.

Thanks for the help and links!

Re: Using Platinum FL shroud on non-plat FL?

I've since modded the non-plat shroud to fit my Platinum marker.

Read up here if you're interested, or want to do it yourself (not a tricky mod).
