Apex barrel?

Hey everyone, im wondering whether or not to buy an Apex barrel or just a decent barrel for my Sierra One/Project Salvo. I want increased range, so im not too bothered about curving balls, but i hear Apex barrels can increase the range if you put backspin on the ball.
My real question is, which will give me better accuracy and range, an Apex barrel, or a normal barrel of the same price?

Many thanks,
Rabbit

Re: Apex barrel?

To get more range you will either need the apex or the flatline. (Or you could mod your getup for the First Strike rounds.)

With the apex you have the ability to change the spin and even trun it off if you like (+ the apex2 looks like a silencer which is cool). This is not possible with the flatline.

from what I understand the apex barrel on its own is not that great so most people suggest getting an aftermarket barrel with an apex adapter.

I recently ordered me an apex2 with the 18inch barrel. (still waiting for it). The 18 inch barrel is going to a project and the tip will be used with my FREAK kit.

Personally I am quite partial to the FREAK, which do have an apex ready front. But there are other options as well like lapco and J&J which are a bit cheaper than buying a freak kit. You can also make almost any barrel that is straight and smooth accept an apex with a bit of electrical tape, a pair of o-rings and some lube.

Re: Apex barrel?

As far as accuracy/air efficiency goes:
Hammerhead
Lapco Bigshot
Palmer's Brass
J&J Ceramic

I think, actually, that this list goes in order from most expensive to least expensive.
But they're all good barrels.

As far as the Apex goes, you will NOT get accuracy unless you put an Apex tip adapter on one of the aforementioned barrels (or other accurate barrels). The Apex does exactly what it's designed to do, and it does it well. It was not made for accuracy but to put paint on people who normally couldn't be reached.

Re: Apex barrel?

I will testify to the crap stock apex barrel. Idk what they were thinking but when I received my barrel/tip, there was tons of over-spray inside the barrel.

Like Devlin mentioned you can also take any barrel with a 7/8 o.d. and put an apex on it..All it takes it 2 orings and some electrical tape. One oring goes at the very end of the barrel, followed by electrical tape(like 8 full wraps perfectly centered) followed by another oring. Add a grease around the tape and orings, assemble the apex tip around it and you are set..

Re: Apex barrel?

I don't know if you made your decision yet or not but another thing is that if you want to keep your shroud on there you will have to buy the 18" Apex 2 Barrel, you could get the 14" but you would need to mod your shroud to make it shorter. I just got an 18" Apex 2 for Christmas, but I haven't had a chance to shot with it yet.

Re: Apex barrel?

After a certain distance the balls obviously slow down.
When I used to use a flatline from a distance I had a couple people literally dodging the paint.

Stiff! makes good barrels
lapco big shot 12" - I've had good luck with along with
J&J cermaic 14"

Re: Apex barrel?

J&j makes a apex barrel adapter that will fit most 7/8 od barrels
