| Re: Lead Bolt? I think if you messed around with lighter metals you get some higher velocities with less air. Lead would not be a good choice though. A lead hammer would weigh 6+ oz.

| Re: Lead Bolt? well, being a machinist, i fansy myself a bit of an amateur metallurgist lead would be a horrable choice....yes lead is heavier but lead has good dampening properties because its very soft....meaning it would deform under stress....pure lead you can gouge with your figure nail...its messy...poisoness....and it can't be machined nicely...as well, it would wear out very fast at the sear catch then you'd have a run-away death machine brass would be a better choice....still its soft though...bearing bronze would be best...good wear properties...self lubing...hard....heavy ..but the 98 isn't designed for a heavier hammer....the sears' are cast...that would break, drive springs would wear out...endcaps would explode if they weren'y metal and the receivers would surely crack in 10 seconds...remember how tippmann did that recall after a5s' end caps started to explode???? ain't safe...

| Re: Lead Bolt? Well i was looking for making more kick but what you say it sounds very dangerous lol, i dont want to break my 98...well anyways thanks. But as a what if question, what if you replaced the sear/endcap with a tougher material and put in a tougher drive sping and sear spring, and used a bearing bronze bolt like you said? would it still be dangerous?

| Re: Lead Bolt? i don't know...i just can't see the 98 lasting long....sure...you could upgrade everything, but you still have the tin/aluminum cast receivers...the grooves where the end cap go would wear/crack...the pin holes where the sear pin sits would wear... typically you run a heavier drive spring or you lower the operating pressure for lighter hammers.....heavier hammer would mean a higher operating pressure or a lighter spring or both...its like a math equation...you change one thing, you need to change the other to balance out the 98s preformance..look at the LPK for example...you need to change out the valve, hammer, drive spring, and add a reg...thats why the TechT ZKH is a failure and a gimic...hell, i feel for the TPXtreme spring kit (which didn't changge my tpx's preformance at all and caused more problems) heavier hammer would also mean there be a longer mechanical dwell dude, it be so much trial and error to get a 98 with a heavier hammer safe and functioning properly...you could go a little heavier then fine tune the 98, but dont think you could just toss a super heavier hammer in there and have a working 98....i personally think in order to get it to work you'd need a higher operation pressure than 800psi
