Basic Safety Rules

1. TREAT EVERY WEAPON AS IF IT WERE LOADED!
If you don't know, then you need to clear the weapon immediately and not commence waving it around like an idiot.
Note: If you are playing around with a firearm and you end up shooting
yourself, a loved one, a friend or a complete stranger, you have
nobody to blame but yourself for your own stupidity! (Video
games and rock and roll do not apply)
2. NEVER POINT YOUR WEAPON AT ANYTHING YOU DON'T INTEND TO
SHOOT!
Pretty self explanatory. If you don't want it to grow a bleeding wound,
then don't point the weapon at it in the first place!

3. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO
FIRE!
Do I have to explain this one? Just keep your finger straight and off
the trigger. It's not really that hard a concept to understand!

4. KEEP YOUR WEAPON ON SAFE UNTIL YOU INTEND TO FIRE!
An added safety precaution. "Whoops! My finger slipped and
squeezed the trigger all on it's own Your Honor!"
will still get you at
least 10 to 20 with almost no possibility of parole. Regardless of the fact
that your sibling was annoying you.

5. KNOW YOUR TARGET, WHAT LIES BEYOND IT AND TO IT'S LEFT AND
RIGHT!
Watch out for the fool that is standing next to your target with the
apple on his/her head. They are probably drunk.
Remember: Projectiles CAN go through walls!

Simple rules for people handling ANY type of weapon that fires a projectile.

Thanks for your time.

I have played at a lot of outlaw fields (privately owned property-friend's group of players) and seen some cavalier attitudes toward safety. I keep the barrel condom on until we radio the other team and everyone is ready AND we say game-on. As soon as I'm out, cover and safety go back on. Another safety issue is face masks.
#7. Face masks stay on! Period!
At one field I play at, there's a long walk out to the playing field from the safe/staging area. In between games if you want to take off your mask; everyone (both teams) gathers together and puts their guns down on the ground at their feet. Then we take off our masks.

I don't care if you checked it 5 minutes ago, check it again!
If you just picked up your weapon after walking away for a minute to grab a soda or water from the cooler, CHECK YOUR WEAPON!!!
You don't know what happened in that minute!
better safe then sorry.
Thank me again.

Oh yeah, no kidding.

Keep your chamber empty, safety on and your electronics off until you are on the field!
Don't be a tool! It only takes 5 seconds to ready your stuff anyways. So again, better safe then sorry.

RULE 8: NEVER GO ON TO THE FIELD WITOHOUT A BUDDY-CHECK.

Even if it's a total stranger, ALWAYS have someone check you for safety equipment (barrel cover/sock, goggs, towel to wipe a gogg hit so you can see...etc..) and things like loose tiedowns, kinks in a strap and such. These types of things can hurt you (or be thecause) just as much as "the usual suspects".

RULE 9: A PAINTBALL DOESN'T CARE WHAT'S IN FRONT OF IT. (NOR DO REAL ROUNDS)

That could be a tree, a bunker...or you. And by the way, at 280 ft/sec (avg chrono limit for daytime play at most fields), that's 180 miles/hr (figure 60 mph = 90 ft/sec).

Thank you TAG

RULE 10: OBEY THE FIELD CHRONO LIMITS!
They are there for a purpose. Don't be that player!
