Re: hoppers

although i haven't really used the rip clip ill give my opinion. I have the cyclone and it hasn't failed on me. i could reach 15 bps stock easily with no chops so far. You could get upgrades to make it load faster but that would cost $100. so $60 for the loader and $100 for ups is alot, but imo you only need to shoot 15bps so upgrades are not mandatory. Plus you don't have to worry about batteries or any electronics.

As for the rip clip its basically a electronic cyclone. It uses halo technology and could feed pretty fast. although imo i would rather get other electronic loaders like the rotor instead of a rip clip.

I voted cyclone since i like not having to use batteries, but the rip clip is also a very good buy if u plan on shooting over 15bps. hope this helps

Re: hoppers

I'm like Gonzo, where I don't have any experience with a Rip-Clip though I've read many good things about it. At least from what reviews I've read, it's not a bad choice and I'd be confident enough to try it out myself.

However, I too use a Cyclone feed and no, it's never failed me either. It's rated at 15bps, but you can get it higher, to around 20 safely, but doing so can wear down those stock parts. Sure, it'll take a while, but if you were to desire a higher RoF, then Cyclone ups are in order. I use TechT's on my AK-98 and recently have included in my new build, the LAPCO Cyclone Mods. Both are effective and can be found for reasonable prices. I always shop ebaY, so I usually land some pretty nice deals.

Ricochet's? That company went belly up if I remember correctly. If anything goes wrong with it, are you really gonna get the support you need to get it squared away?

Hope this helped some, good luck.

Re: hoppers

I have the cyclone on my 98 along with response. Not had any issues with the cyclone, its all stock with a few home done mods. I really like the fact that is does not need batteries. You can upgrade it, but you really don't need it (unless you start shooting more than 15bps). The one thing I don't like is the big profile, especially with the stock A5 hopper, get the X7 hopper.
I hear that the three that you have narrowed it down to are all good and I'm sure you'll be happy with any of them. Check out pbreview, you'll find all the good and bad of each, hope this helps

Re: hoppers

I to really like the cyclone, I have an Alpha Black w/Cyclone and two A-5's but if you are planning on getting a new marker in the near future a good force feed electro may be the most cost effective. My oldest son has a VL jr on his SP-1 and I just bought an SLG for my kids to try for speedball games. All I have to do is swap the VL to the SLG and you can't do that with a Cyclone. Of your choices I voted for the cyclone, on a side note my son originally had a ricochet Apache on his SP-1 and the feedneck broke and seemed to be made of very brittle material so I cannot recommend them from my personal experience even though they are realatively cheap.

Re: hoppers

I'd vote for an electro hopper over a cyclone or rip clip too, as stated above, you can switch it between markers.

I used a VLocity Jr all last season, and it worked great. Cyclones are fine, most of the time, but they are a major pain to clean out if you get a break in there. It doesn't necessarily have to come from the cyclone breaking it either, as a half cracked ball in your pod will give you cyclone soup quick enough. Most electro hoppers merely need a couple screws to be taken out to take it in half and give it a quick clean, which is a real plus in turn around time. Not only that, they are reliable.

Yesurday we played in -5C weather with about 20cm of fresh snow, and only half the tippmanns with cyclones made it through the day. I know they are tough systems, but they are complicated and one snag will take 'em down.

The Rip Clip is a nice balance between the two styles, as you can use tac caps and have the niceties of an electro, but it's not able to be switched between markers which is a pain.

I sold my VLocity Jr and got a Rotor a few months ago, and it's awesome in every way, easy on batteries and rips apart like a dream, no tools needed. It's tough, it went with my SP1 into a snowdrift and several puddles and just kept plugging away like it was in optimal weather with sun and warmth and all the good stuff that wasn't there.

It's a lot of money though.
