cutting a feed neck down

I just got a used marker package for my wife, and it came with an old viewloader hopper. I'm wondering if I can cut down the feed neck of the hopper (which is about 1.5" long before it tapers up to the hopper, at least .5" longer than it needs to be for the 98) so that it rides a little lower on the marker. Or will cutting it shorter make it feed improperly?

Yep. I've done it to 3 gravity feed hoppers now.

Re: cutting a feed neck down

Cutting is an option, especially if it is a gravity hopper. You can even trim down some of the electronic hoppers a little bit. If there is a sensor in the feed neck be careful not to cut too high though.

Re: cutting a feed neck down

You realize that the sensors are up in the hopper body right? You'd have to cut way more than the feedneck to get those too.

Re: cutting a feed neck down

yeah, just insert the hopper and measure the excess, cut the excess off the bottom. cut on one side to the crease in the middle, flip and do the same from the other side. id cut it just shy of the mark you want removed, then sand it down and smooth. make sure you clear the feedneck of and thing when your done.

I know the eyes are a lot further up the feed neck and more into the body. I could be wrong, but I thought the reed switch on the Ricochete hoppers was a little further down in the feed neck than the eyes. It has been about 9 years since I messes with a Ricochete hopper so my memory could be fuzzy.

Re: cutting a feed neck down

I'm not an expert on ricochets (never owned one) but from the looks of it, they're still pretty far up. Up far enough that to hit it you have to cut off the battery compartment.

Re: cutting a feed neck down

I have a vl electronic and about 1/2 " broke off. Fortunately it still fits in the feed neck.
