The tale of 2 Milsigs

EDIT: The SCARSIG is finished. Thread is here.

The CO's and XO's (aka mine) Milsigs of our team...both works in progress.

I picked up the Milsig last month when I traded my Phantom for something I'd get more use out of.

Actually I am building 3 guns right now. A FN Scar (Milsig K series), a FN FAL (older Milsig K series) and a older 98 Custom, Qloaded

The Scar is my CO's. The FAL (or C1A1 as the Canadian Forces refers it as) is mine.

The last of the major parts for the Scar came in on tuesday. So far I've only machined the new flash hider for the Scar. I based it all off a photo I found on the net. It is threaded for Milsig barrels. I didn't want to machine box threads for the silencer like the real ones have, so I just put a 1mm pitch threads on it.

I'll start modding (fitting) the 416 shroud tomorrow after work and start the front right hand cocking mod. Scars have both left and right handed reciprocating cocking, but for now we aggreed to just keep it simple with the cocking knob just on the left side. Hopefully I'll have time to make on a CNC mill the new butt plate adapter (to accept the Scar stock) this tuesday.

I still have to make shims for the A5 HE grip, machine a new top rail, machine the folding front sight and then do all the aesthetics.

The FN FAL will just be very simplified for now. I will machine a new gas barrel block (with front sight) and new "Delta Ring" to accept the Magpul MOE shroud. Plus make a carrying handle. The Magpul shroud was the closest thing I could find commercially that looks like a FAL shroud. FALs are illegal in Canada but only the barrel and recevier CANNOT be imported into Canada. I just have to find a local gun store that is willing to import the shroud and grip for me.

So far:

SCAR
-Dboys Scar Rear Sight
-Rap4 A5 416 Shroud
-Dboys Scar Stock
-Custom Scar flash Hider
-Tippmann H.E. grip

FAL
-Milsig Marksmen Barrel
-Tippmann A5 Commando Stock
-Replica C79 Elcan Sight
-Magpul MOE Shroud
-BUIS Flip Up Rear Sight

The 98 is top secret...

Re: The tale of 2 Milsigs

Cool. MilSig is still close to the top of my wish list. I like to get a Paradigm but I thinks its a bit out of my budget.

And we want to see those projects when your finished with'em.

Re: The tale of 2 Milsigs

The M Series Paradigm is great, Holy Odin it's well built. I'm so impressed on how well the K Series is designed.

oh yah, I'll have finished pics. I'll post updates and pictures of parts as i finish them but I won't have walkthrough pics or any build pics. Considering most of the work will be machining, there's no point. Besides, these aren't 98s and I think I'm the only active machinist on this OG site...can't speak for A5og and X7og...

Re: The tale of 2 Milsigs

Well, that shroud needs alot of modding to fit. a boss at the top front receiver bolt location needs milling down plus alot of the top weaver rail needs machining if you want the threaded inserts on the shroud to exist. everything that needs modding to the shroud is done, the receivers arent fully modded yet. I want to discuss with my CO our options of what needs to be done to the receivers. Its a 500 dollar gun out of the package and i dont want to do anything we haven't already discussed or what he won't be happy with. We've been planning this gun for the last 6 or 7 months.

The butt plate adapter is alot more complex than I thought. I thought it would be simple with 1 CNC operation, and 2 simple manual ops to make. looks like 2 cnc and 1 manual. so I got the first CNC op done last night at 2;45 in the morning, which is the t-slotted side of where the airsoft Scar stock slides onto.

Its just we're so freaking busy at work. after my shift (1-2am) i have to tear down a CNC mill, program my secret part, do my setup, run my parts, then tear that down and get the job back up and running for the morning shift idiots (including fulling running a part of that job so i know i didnt screw anything up). its gonna be alot of long nights.....who's bright freakin idea was it to build three highly custom guns in time for a big game next month????

Re: The tale of 2 Milsigs

Scar update:

-Scar Stock Adapter was finished today
-New cocking handle
-Milsig recievers modded for front cocking
-Milsig recievers modded to fit shroud
-Rap4 416 shroud modded to fit Milsig receivers

I put my Milsig Marksmen Barrel on because this is what the Scar will eventually have on it.

Re: The tale of 2 Milsigs

The new top rail is almost done...probably aboot 1/2 hour more machine time and its done...front sight mount (gas block) is basicly done and just needs a hole drilled and tapped....still need to make the HE grip shims as well as the folding front sight ...and to add to the project, I now need to machine a picattiny mount/riser block for an ACOG sight...the gun is offically over a 1000 dollars now not counting the anodizing of the parts im making or some parts im still needing to order from Milsig...also not counting the monitary value of all my time spent researching, designing, programming, machining, or material costs.

i still dont know how buddy's gonna repay me, lol

Re: The tale of 2 Milsigs

Wow, these are looking really nice. I've always wanted to do some Mil-Sig, but it's out of my price range, and I don't have a Milsig field withing 100 miles of me.

Re: The tale of 2 Milsigs

milsig is a local company to me and their head office/warehouse is only 1/2 hour away from me....a local feild has limited ammo games that milsig promotes once a month here

milsigs are fine for drop in games but the last thing you want for big games
