Re: Low pressure without an LP kit Yes, most 98s will run at ~500 PSI right out of the box, but to get lower you will need to mod the valve for higher flow. I forget what all needs to be done; I just remember that you need to lighten the hammer, make the flutes on the valve larger, and make a volumizer. There was more but I don't remember...

Re: Low pressure without an LP kit you need a lighter spring for the valve as well ,,you really dont need a lighter hammer ,but it helps to get rid of the kick of the gun ,not lowering the pressure .you can use a lightest spring with regular hammer with the setup .The gun out of the box will run at 500 but its not really dependable at that ,,the stock setup was intended to be working at 800psi stock ,i got mine down to 195 with ,LP kit e bolt ,alum power tube, and flow modded LP kit ,so they can be lower pressure .I'm running at 350 for my regular play 98 that i use on a weekly bases

Re: Low pressure without an LP kit I have replaced the valve spring with one lighter on most 98/ish guns i have had. Maybe check the local proshop if possible for something that will fit. I have used tapered spyder springs with good results even. Lower pressure needs higher volume so with a stock hammer,or whatever you have, at some point you will need a harder main spring (boo, chop) or a softer valve spring. Beyond what springs will do for you to help achieve you goal of lp operation, valve flow mods and hammer weight are some of the other variables when going lp. Not to mention pre-valve volume and flow restriction for dropoff. theres probably a million variables but springing seems to me to be the most benefit vs time involved and cost when lowering pressure.
