Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

Apologies for not having any useful help for you - but I just wanted to add to the annoyances with the "Platinum Series" edition of the 98c.

I bought, before I got the marker (I'm a new guy..), a flatline barrel from eBay - for a Tippmann 98 marker.

Little did I know that that meant not the 98c platinum, because of the stupid rear sight embedded in the metal design. This is of course unremovable, and therefore the flatline barrel cannot use the screw hole for the rear sight - and as such does not fit.

Very annoyed. I'm either going to try to mod it to fit, by cutting the end off so it goes along the picatinny a bit, but stops short of the end - allowing room for an elevated rear sight to see above it if needed - or sell it, and buy some other barrel.

However, with my modding idea I'm worried that it wouldn't be secure enough... the screw through the rear sight is the only fitting that the shroud has, so if I modded it on it would only be attached at the barrel.

I also considered using it without the shroud - which would most likely just look ridiculous!

No, you just need a drill and the proper taps. It's a very easy process.

The only issue is that I'm pretty sure the reduction fitting holds the valve in place, and I don't think a macro fitting would cut it. The older valves have 2 screws on the right side of the body holding them in place, the platinums don't. Even if you do just take an older style valve and throw it in there, you'd still have the same problem.

Good point, I had not considered that. Are you saying that it is possible to maybe use the older style valve and drill some holes in the platinum receiver on the right side, like the 98c, so it could be held in place the same way? I noticed the plastic (powertube is it?) has a knob part that seats into the 98c receiver as well. I am not sure the purpose, but the 98 Plat power tube is smooth and does not "seat" into the receiver. Sorry for my noob-ness. It's just confusing all these pointless little changes they made. Also can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the 98c and 98 plat tacamo fake mags? There is a $10 price difference, but comparing my two markers I can't figure out how the parts could be different.
