Unhappy Frustrating 98 Plat.

Okay... I own a 98 custom platinum. I have moved on to other better guns... but recently I came back to my 98 to do some changes on it.

As alot of you know... all the previous 98 model versions have two split shells. In those versions, I believe that the steel braided line screws right into the power tube. (please correct me if I am wrong) So wouldnt it be very easy to unscrew out that steel line, and replace it with a macro line fitting?

But that is not the case with my 98 platinum. Because they have the 3-split clam shell. Therefore on the platinum's power tube, the steel braided line doesnt screw into the power tube like older versions. Instead it is held in place by a hex nut. The steel braided line has a bowl shaped end that seals against the power tube.

Here are my pictures:::

But for my project, I want to replace the steel line with a macro fitting and macro line.

Like so......

I have looked all over the internet, and have found no solution. The only option that I came across is this : 98 Platinum Vertical Adapter. This item is out of stock. And if I could get one, the only way that I could use it is screw a remote fitting into the asa adapter and then run the macro fitting off of the remote fitting ( If you undersand that) Which I guess would work, but is not my desired choice for my project.

Please... if you know anyway or any product that would allow me to connect a macroline to the power tube, please help. I would appreciate any help, info, or suggestions.

Thanks for your time.

Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

Find an older 98 valve.

Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

Are those compatible with the platinum powertube?

Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

Simple solution: sell the Platinum and get an older one.

I'm not terribly familiar with the dimensions of a platinum, but you might be able to drill and tap for 1/4" NPT. Then you could just screw a macro fitting in.

Yeah, though, I hate the platinum. The valve design is stupid. The split reciever wasn't thought out at all (really, if there was ever a part of the gun you needed to get to, it's the front. And they make it so that you have to take the back off to get to the front). I also hate the trigger. The new push-style springing just sucks. The older pull-style springs were much better.

Honestly, I think Tippmann should have stuck with the Carbine body. It really wouldn't have been hard to redesign the trigger (primary reason behind the 98) and the front grip onto a carbine.

Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

I dont know what tippmann was thinking... even with the 3 split clam shell, why is there the need for this tube setup? The normal screw in fitting would have been much easier.

Could you further explain the "drill and tap" idea you had?

Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

I actually just joined this forum because I am having the same exact problem with my platinum series. I agree with bear though, use the older style valve. I attempted something similar before, but I damaged the valve in the process. I will try again soon. The 98 platinum has really been a huge headache for pretty much everything I have tried.

Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

What I'm suggesting is drilling out the reduction fitting on the bottom of the valve, and re-tap for 1/4" NPT so you can use macroline. Should be pretty self explanatory. This is, of course, assuming that there's enough meat on a platinum valve to do that.

The only issue is that I'm pretty sure the reduction fitting holds the valve in place, and I don't think a macro fitting would cut it. The older valves have 2 screws on the right side of the body holding them in place, the platinums don't. Even if you do just take an older style valve and throw it in there, you'd still have the same problem.

Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

I assume I would have to take the valve to some specialist in order to have it drilled and fitted? That would be awesome if it worked good.

Re: Frustrating 98 Plat.

i had the same problem on my rk-62 build. the two solutions that i found was either get a older valve or skip the idea. but since i only needed a longer airline i got an x7 90degree fitting and a female to female adapter and went on from there.

what you COULD do is get the VA for the platinum and mod that or put an ASA plug in it with the macroline.
