HOWTO make own flatline/apex-style barrelsystem

WARNING! THIS IS ONLY CONCEPTUNAL - IT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED BY ME!

okay so when i get bored (or have a lot of homework) my mind tend to wander of. So this time i designed a flatline that can be rotated like an apex. And if you really feel like it, it can be used as a freak also. sound nice? here's my howto:

the drilling into the barrel would need to be 1-2" to ensure stability. and the drillbit needs to be the same size at the outer diameter of the aluminum tubing.

Barrel used should be 8" or longer and the cut should be made about 2-3" from the back. (to ensure a long enough straight end so the ball has time to stabilize after the curve)

if you were to use a barrelback instead of a "normal" barrel you could cut the front also in half and add an o-ring (just like the back) and a pipeclamp. This would make it possible to change the aluminum tubing and you could then have a "freak" kit.

Depending on your aluminum tubing you might (or might not) need to support the barrel with a shroud of some sort to keep it from bending.

i just realized that instead of cutting the back part in two it would be possible to just machine out a groove and drill 3 holes in the back and add the o-ring there like the stockbarrel of the azodin pump (when you screw the barrel in the o-ring will be forced into the holes and this will make 3 "nubs" on the inside that will hold the aluminum tubing inplace)

Good thing someone has tested it:

YouTube - Borg-Tech:how to make a Flatline barrel!

That's all I have to say.

yea i've seen that video.. the reason it didn't work was because of the curvature of the barrel and he didn't use a pipebender (meaning the barrel lost its round shape where he bent it).
It was one of the things that got me thinking of making one. But i copied the idea of 2 parts from old 98 flatline (barrel adapter + curved barrel)

a pipebender isn't going to make any difference in the bending of the pipe. The pipe would still no longer be concentric where you made the bend.

I've already tested this a long time ago with my own pipebender, pipe and a dial caliper.

You can make one out of pvc. i used 3/4in pvc and a heat gun to bend it. It works.

What ranges do you get with it? it cant be near as good as a real tippy flatline, or one with a good paint to barrel match atleast.

Re: HOWTO make own flatline/apex-style barrelsystem

It can shoot about 300 feet when it is slightly angled, and it is the most accurate barrel i have ever used. I shot 10 rounds about 200 feet, and they all landed in about a 6 foot circle.
