My SC SL-68 2 Project

About a month ago now, I posted on MCB that I was selling a few items, one of which was a gas-thru Longbow stock for an A5. Within about 6 hours of posting, someone offered an SL-68 2 for the stock. Seemed like a great deal for me, so I took it. I got a standard gen-1 SL-68 2 in the mail about a week later. Well, when I play pump, I much prefer stock class, so I asked around on what my options were. My original plan was to cut the original feedneck off and mount a phantom feedblock. I got a reply from someone, offering to trade for a custom centerfeed SL. In classic gun-***** fashion, I accepted the offer before the other SL-68 had even arrived to me.

As you can see, the centerfeed converions, while being very well-done, is not attractive. He used a direct feed conversion block for a pistol (I think he said it was PT Extreme, but he wasn't sure himself). It's held on with a rod going through a hole in the sight rail and a screw coming through the top to hold it in place.

Now, I could have just removed the Ion feedneck and used the hole for the screw that holds the front cap of the feed adapter on to mount my Phantom feedblock, as it lined up perfectly. But where's the fun in that? Instead, I went a different route.

Instead, I just hacked off the sight rail and filed it all down. I won't be able to mount the feedblock for another few weeks when I can use a drill press, but I think it'll look pretty good when I finish.

I also got a Trinity T-Lock feedneck for an old spyder to use when I want to go open class.

Haven't shot it yet.

It doesn't, it uses a wierd clamp system where the barrel slides into the gun body and then you tighten the screw below the barrel which tightens the body down onto the barrel.

Horrendous. It's the worst pump stroke of any pump gun ever made, including any Brass Eagle gun.

Re: My SC SL-68 2 Project

Yeah the SL I shot had a pretty rough action also, but it is cool to see one with a centerfeed..

Re: My SC SL-68 2 Project

Got her pretty much finished. Yesterday I was able to drill and tap the hole to mount the feedblock. It didn't sit perfectly flush to the body due to the top profile of the gun, so today I filed it down and got it nice and tight. I wasn't able to drill the rear hole for the spyder feedneck, but the front one can still hold it on if I need it to.

I also went and polished the bolt, hammer, sear and powertube. That, along with a liberal application of Tri-flow, makes the pump stroke much more reasonable. It's still pretty heavy, but I have a maddmann spring kit on the way so I might be able to tune that out as well.

First person to notice my other super awesome mod gets an e-cookie.

That was done to it before I got it, actually.
