98 Custom Loses Pressure

Hi all, I'm new to the site, but after searching for quite a while, I could not find a thread on my exact problem.

My 98 Custom developed a strange issue. If I attach the CO2 tank, the gun will fire 4-5 times just fine. After that, it's like there is no pressure. If I then unscrew the tank and screw it back in, it will do the same thing.

Does it sound like o-rings or something else? I don't want to waste my money on a new o-ring kit if it's something simple.

Thanks in advance!

Re: 98 Custom Loses Pressure

do you have a second co2 tank to test this on? i'm thinking its your tank

there could be a blockage inside your s/s braided line (take it off and try banging it around)

i dont think its an oring issue...if there is a problem with orings or the cup seal, the valve will just leak...

no air, than its a air supply issue....tank, asa, air line....is this an older 98 or a platnum 98?????

the actual power tube has nothing to do with this

Re: 98 Custom Loses Pressure

Sometimes the tolerences between the tank and the ASA prevents the pin valve on the tank from opening quite right. So either A) you need to screw your tank in further, or B) you need a different tank. It's not likely to be B though.

i had the same problem magmoor is talking about with a couple of co2 tanks...their valve pins were either cut too short or either to worn to contact the asa good...

Re: 98 Custom Loses Pressure

Try the tank on another marker if you can or try another tank on your marker. You could also back out the tank a hair after you screw it into the ASA. Sometimes the different tolerances between the ASA and the valve pin could cause the pin to go into the valve too far. That then closes off the valve and you only have enough air in the marker for up to 5 shots. If it is because you end up screwing the tank in too far you can always put an o-ring in the ASA to act as a spacer prevent over tightening.

Re: 98 Custom Loses Pressure

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I tried a different tank and the marker worked fine. I went back to the first tank and tried it again and it did the same thing. I tried backing it off a little, but that didn't help. Upon further inspection of the tank, there was some green plastic-like stuff coming out from around the valve pin. Once I got it all out, the valve leaked constantly. Looks like I have a new tank in my future. Thanks again!

Re: 98 Custom Loses Pressure

Just replace the valve. New valves run around $7 if memory serves me right.

Re: 98 Custom Loses Pressure

No, don't do that. It is very hard to get tank valves off, and installing them needs to be done perfectly otherwise it is extremely dangerous. That's why they don't sell valves at Wal-Mart like they did a few years ago; because someone put it on wrong and the tank came off of it and killed someone.
