Techie's Hk 416A5 work log

I figured this time around, I'm going to do a proper work log for this mod complete with pics of the modifications and narration. Though this is basically bolt on, I figured it might help someone and also be of interest to the community.

My goal: to mimic this realworld Hk as close as possible with a few twists and turns of my own.

We all know what an A5 looks like and probably most of the parts and accessories, but so far here's what I've got or got on order.

This stock, a BT F.E. was shipped by mistake. As you can see it's for an A5 but I had originally wanted it for my 98. It's been discontinued after what I understand was a short production run. Rarity? I don't know, but a few of the guys over at A5OG was a bit taken aback with this stock. Simply put, they all sounded like they didn't know it even existed. Car stock's are quite common, but apparently not this type, it's what got my mind churning about a new mod and the fact that very few are left on the market. Trust me I checked around.

After looking at the Tacamo 416 and searching for any other brands that had a 416 handguard/shroud(some guy told me his 416 was a "Bull Strike" ) I decided on the Opsgear. Why? couple of reasons. 1st, the floating barrel gives the shroud a much more realistic look like the actual rifle it's trying to mimic and if possible I might try to fanagle a folding front sight in there. 2nd, I didn't want to go and buy a RAP4 A5 RAS or Weaver sight rail like I would have had to with the Tacamo. The one piece shroud seemed like a much more logical solution. I do kind of have a problem with the opening in the shroud for the stock rear sight as I want it lifted onto the rail where there is none so it looks like THIS. Some modification's required I'm sure, but we'll see.

The LAPCO M4 Gas Through Mag was a definite must as I thought it gave the best profile for an A5 Mag being set back closer to the trigger housing. I've been considering chopping out the mag and maybe slipping in something like THIS. Don't get me wrong, I dig the way this looks, but in keeping with uniqueness and if possible(as I don't yet have this mag in my posession) I'd like to see what I could do to create a different gas through. If the dimensions match for an airsoft mag I'm sure it's possible, but then I have to kick around the cost I doled out to get this mag in the first place.

Well, that's it for now, but I'll be back for sure to update ya's. Later guys.

Update: Just got the mag in the mail. Won't mod it, It's nice just the way it is.

Re: Techie's Hk 416A5 work log

Scored a black UTG ergonomic tactical foregrip today. I looked at some like this with the flashlight accessory and wow, what a rip, like $75-$150 on ebaY. NUTS! This only cost me $13.

I've been working on polishing the internals, mostly areas where parts cycle; the rear and front bolts. I'm wasting time polishing behind the powertube, but I'm Dremeling this sucker so what the hell. I'm at odds about sanding the "pit" in the right receiver 'cause I don't wanna mess with the diameter. I've been kicking around actually using auto fiberglass to fill it, but wonder if that'll cause unnecessary friction. I should probably just leave it alone. When I'm done with the polish, I'm gonna hit it with some Teflon auto polish, the smoother the better.

I also removed the lip on my A5. I think it just messes with the overall look of the 416 or really any of the mods that can be done with it.

As you can see there's a pit, but I'll put a dab of fiberglass in it then primer/paint it. I did buy a Delrin Starfire for this like I did for my AK-98, so I'm waiting for it before I slap this together again. Since I saw the new "Zero Kick" bolt from TechT I've been thinking about getting it for this build. Haven't made up my mind yet.

so no beta mag from bossman???? telling you it would look sick. or can it not fit on with the shroud from opsgear??

edit: if you check opsgear they now sell a different pistol grip that looks just like the real hk 416. im not sure if it would fit with mag. my friend wants to fix up his a5 and im helping him.

Re: Techie's Hk 416A5 work log

Well, I sold my AK Drum mag, so I turned the money from the sale into a new 14" Lapco BIGshot for my build. HOOYAH!

Re: Techie's Hk 416A5 work log

I finally finished polishing up the internals and decided to have some fun and slap this baby together to get some idea of what it looked like and to see what adjustments needed to be made. The longscrew that came with the shroud needed to be cut down as it was digging right into the Cyclone, that was it though, nothing major at all. I might grind down where the lip was just a bit more to even it up with the shroud too.

I still have pieces inbound, my foregrip, the Bigshot and the Starfire. At first I thought a scope would go well with this, but since I'm going to stick with the Ricochet hopper, I'm gonna pass and go with an Airsoft Hk-416 flip-up front sight. It's mostly for show, but what the hey, they're cheap enough. When I put on the stock barrel, I was a little disappointed that I didn't get an 8" Bigshot instead of the 14" I ordered. Funny thing is, when I checked out ebaY, they were either the same price(I paid $53 total for my 14) or the 8" was mre. I kinda like the stubby look. I also think the F.E. Stock sets off the marker a little bit too. Nice and beefy. Well, more to come later on.
