To OP, try putting a few drops of oil in the Asa and fireing. You may also need to change some orings.

Yeah.. very true.. you might possibly have a leak as well... but you would probably would have noticed that.. but orings are also a good thing to look for.. if the gun has been sitting.. the orings can be rotted and or cracked or broken... if they are cracked you might as well replace them anyways.

Re: 98 custom + flatline = low velocity

You said that it was rarely used. Your problem might be that the person you bought it from stored the gun in the cocked position which can lead to a weakened spring. Try replacing the spring.

Re: 98 custom + flatline = low velocity

That would be my diagnosis is the spring. Some guns are different from others, oddly enough, and need some more than others. Definately try another spring and if you aren't planning on having a stock, I would try out a RVA (Rear Velocity Adjuster) to fine tune the spring. By having a heavier spring it keeps the valve open longer to give your 98 some more boost in velocity that it needs.

Re: 98 custom + flatline = low velocity

i replaced all the o-rings, polished the interior, oiled it, and even dropped a few drops of oil into the air line.

Only thing left i think is the long spring i need to change. I haven't checked the results yet, but so far, the it feels good. Ill stop by the paintball field this weekend to check my FPS. if it still sucks, ill get a new spring.

Re: 98 custom + flatline = low velocity

As previously mentioned, most likely the drive spring is worn out. I had that problem with an A5 and 98C I picked up used. Tried everything, then noticed when apart, spring seemed just slightly shorter than stock. Just be aware, the Flatline barrel doesn't seem to like the velocity set too high. On mine, will shoot at 290 fps, but if I start rapid firing, will start to rip the balls apart, especially when using anything but tight bore paintballs. Mine seems to function best about 270-280 fps, just a bit under max allowed at my field(290 is max). At 300 fps, definitely rips the balls apart. Also, try to avoid using a pull through squeegee(with the rubber rings) of any kind. Over a short period of time, wears out the ruff internal finish that supposed to help the ball get the back spin. Try to rinse it out and/or use the soft cloth ones to clean out barrel.

Re: 98 custom + flatline = low velocity

Like I said on another spring thread... Your rear bolt spring should be 4.5 inches long. I have just noticed that on my 98. My spring is I think 4 3/8?
