no lube needed on the apex..just a good clean ramp and tight fit on the barrel should do the trick..the idea of the apex is to actually put backspin on the ball using the ramp. Lubing it up would probably defeat the purpose and actually make the ball hook like crazy.. It is always a good rule of thumb to take the barrel off when dry firing your gun to lube so you don't get any oil in the barrel..

And also, to help keep old threads dead you can always start a new thread with any questions or the like.. It really will save the world from zombies..

Re: Cheap sniper ideas please?

Gun wise, yes a good barrel is important and should be the first thing you get. Several good suggestions have been made, but a sniper does not always mean you need range. Your first goal is to put the paint exactly where you want it, if you do that at extended range or from cover it does not matter, shooting some one out is all the same. I would suggest keeping the trigger mechanical as your goal is not to fire a lot of paint, but to fire a small amount very accurately. There are some very inexpensive mods you can do if you prefer a lighter trigger pull, personally it has not bothered me so I kept mine stock. You will get all sorts of opinions on sights, personally I see little benefit to telescopic(magnifying) scopes, and I feel Red Dot/Holographic sights put you at the mercy of a battery, so I prefer mechanical/iron sights as all you really need is a good point of reference to where you are aiming and this type of sights has proven effective for centuries. You may find a stock helps you stabilize your shots. Future upgrades I would suggest a Cyclone feed system as it will make your feed more reliable, again I stay away from battery powered feeding systems.

Now some other things to consider on the road to being a sniper is how your dress up your gun and yourself. First and foremost avoid bright colours, stick to earth tones. Cover any glossy or reflective surfaces you can. Choosing a subtle camouflage pattern will give you the greatest flexibility, don't stick to millitary patterns unless you really want to get into MillSim, hunting patters work very well to. Camo masks will also be an advantage. Also if you want the best position from which to make a surprise elimination you may need to go where no one else will expect you to, this means you either should be very tough of cover as much of yourself as you can, you may encounter thorns, stinging nettle or poison ivy in these places. McNett CamoForm as has been recently suggested to me works well for dressing your gun, focus on your barrel, but not any porting you have at the end, and hopper as these are more likely to be exposed. You can cover as much of the gun as you wish, but I find the barrel and hopper to be the "Hot Spots".

Now for any of the above to do you any good at all you need to work on your marksmanship and patience. Being a sniper means you have to be able to aim effectively, and also have the patience to wait for the right shot. If you can't aim and put the paint where it needs to be (I know this is harder for a sock or inexpensively moded gun.) then all the mods in the world will not help you. Likewise if you fire too soon you risk blowing your cover without gaining the elimination.

P.S. Bah! Need to get in the habit of checking the dates of all the preceding posts.

Re: Cheap sniper ideas please?

I have been using an apex for a while now because it gives me a big range advantage and some strange shots to play with. I would NOT recomend this barrel for sniping, it is much too inaccurate for that. I use it because I can sit out of the enemies range while i spray them with paint, it is a very good barrel for that but not a good barrel for dot on accuracy.
Picking out camo is important in all woods-ball play, but it is more important as a sniper because you don't give your position away as often as the other players. A friend of mine used some green tape and netting from a bag of lemons along with some normal camo cloth to gillie his gun. However that did not work because all green things are not equal. using something bright green will not work in most parts of the continental US, and I find that the most important color in camouflaging is brown. When camouflaging your gun try to do a sort of gillie camouflage to break up your outline.
