| Re: What do you think, new 98 Platinum I have to say like several others have said, I find the foregrip to be very comfortable. I tried an A-5 and I just did not like the "feel". But, hey,to each player goes their own style and feel. |

| Re: What do you think, new 98 Platinum I know this thread is a little old, but hey, I'm new here so its new to me. ![]() On the front grip. . . I like the front grip on the A5 better, I really don't like the one that comes stock on the BT-4, so the one on the 98 is kind of in the middle. Now, putting a classic 98-style front grip on a rail I think might have been a good compromise between getting "the look" and "moving forward". The only other reason I see for the lack of change is to keep the vertical adapter/expansion chamber kit/LPK compatible, but with the expansion chamber kind of not having a lot of traction for folks looking for upgrades and the LPK out of production . . . ? Regarding "if you want a 98 with a removable front grip get a BT", I'm going to have to disagree. Granted, the internals are close enough in the BT to be almost interchangeable with the 98 (folks on the BTWarrior forum have had mixed results with some combos of parts), in hand the two markers feel very different. One thing that I didn't mention when writing about the front grips is the rear grips on each marker. By far, the .45 grips on the 98 are my favorite of the three. The grips on the A5 (HK?) are nice and comfortable (mileage varies if you are a left-hand shooter), but they really need a textured contact patch or a change in the surface texture of the grip composite to keep your hand from slipping around the grip. The removable grip frame on the BT is cool and all, but not only does the plastic grip and wonky A5-style trigger guard just not feel "right" to me, but molding the grip panels as one with the frame means no grip customization. Further, the lighter composite trigger frame throws the balance of the marker (which is already a little heavier than the 98 due to the materials used and added bulk of the machined rail system) way off from what one is used to with the 98. The aluminum grip frame on the 98 makes the marker (base model, no add-ons) a little heavy in the back, but when you put a (smallish) tank on the grip and fill a hopper on the front, everything balances out pretty well. With the BT (maybe by design), it seems like you HAVE to add some sort of front grip/shroud/accessories and a stock of some kind to get the marker to balance out right. . . maybe that's why I'm not as big a fan of the BT setup in this regard; I've used it mostly without external mods (except for an aluminum Metadyne 6" SR shroud just before the power tube decided to give up the ghost on me). Down to the point, why BT makes (made) a metal electro grip frame but never did a mechanical one (or made it able to convert) is just beyond me. . . the changeable grip frame is one of it's big selling points. . . |

| Re: What do you think, new 98 Platinum i like my 98 platinum....it will take an idiot to not know how easy it is to take stuff appart...like that split reciever... as for r/t and cyclone? its not like the older 98 where its only one bung for a banjo bolt in the 98PS it has two bungs for two separate banjo bolts... therefore, the power tube has a different design (i noticed it when i bought the r/t, since the shop gave me the r/t from the older model, it fits though, but except the power tube, like i said different design) and, as for that r/t,c/f ACT problem shooting? (that i've heard) i did not find any problems...maybe because of the new power tube design? they added rails!!! yeah...well...its ok...that way i do not have to buy a separate rail.. as for the grip? no comment...why? it all depends on the player... my only problem? if only it comes with the Rocket Cock...or tippmann should make one of their own..or..turn it like the A5/X7..built in covers...

| Re: What do you think, new 98 Platinum personally i do not see much of a improvment from the last 98 i mean the new platinum looks sleeker but internally its not that different.

| Re: What do you think, new 98 Platinum As for the grip, I didn't mind it, but that Opsgear .50 BMG mag covers it nicely, lol. I am not too picky about whatever happens to the design for the front grip because I love my heavy steel mag too much to get rid of it and the grip is completely hidden inside the mag so I'll never see the difference. Internally? Did it really need an upgrade? I highly doubt any of us would be too happy with any major internal mods. I would be sad to see this thing turn into a high dollar electro gun like everybody else. What I do like is how the little front sight hinge spring is contained and doesn't go flying like on my 98C and the split reciever is a nice touch. I don't believe that the cyclone loader is just a "A5 or X7" thing either. It is a Tippmann thing and I love the fact that it bolts onto the 98 and Alpha Black. I do believe that it should stay aftermarket for the 98 and Alpha Black, however. These are designed as entry level markers, why increase the starting cost to some young gun who probably couldn't maintain a cyclone just getting into the sport the way it needs to be maintained.
