Back in the fold!!!!

Posted over on model98.org, thought I'd put it here too.

Well, the 98 arrived and I must say it felt like X-mas, until I saw the marker. I don't think this thing was ever taken apart and cleaned. EVER!!!! The bolt was sticky, there was dried paint in places and there's some rust on almost all of the small outside screws. But I had forgotten what TANKS these markers are, it cycled without a hitch!! (remember this)

So I broke out the toolbox and cleaning gear and dove in.

Just a recap:
Model 98 Custom
Taso Stone Cold 2 Big stick
Sliding gas thru T-stock (chrome)
Dye Black Sticky Grips
CAR stock
Ebite special---$81 shipped

Anyway, the inside was just as I feared. Dried paint everywhere. Some gummy nasty stuff all over the front and rear bolt and internal areas. Broken power tube. All kinds of field debris everywhere, grass, dirt..etc etc.

So from 4:30pm until 8:00pm, with the BBC's Top Gear playing on the TV (my all time favorite show), I proceeded to: scrub and clean the whole marker, polish internals, install clicky pen mod, install vertical adapter, install gas thru grip and re-seal bottomline. Also discovered that one of the feedneck pins was missing.

To do list:
Order power tube. (done, getting Rufus Dawg bolt and tube kit for the meantime)
Order feedneck (done)
Order double trigger (done)
Order barrel ( not sure I like this Taso, looking for a J&J now)
Paint job!!!!

All in all, I don't feel bad, the gas thru stock is worth at least 30-40 bucks and will go on my pump just fine. The CAR stock is a pleasant surprise, it's a lot better made than I expected. And best of all, I have a Hammer again!!!!!!!

Will get some pics as soon as it's painted.

w00t!!!!!

Re: Back in the fold!!!!

I should have taken some pics of the nasty condition it was in, but I was so aghast, I just dove in to get it clean. But I will get pics of before and after the paint and other add ons.

Re: Back in the fold!!!!

It really felt good to be messing with a marker again. I just realized it's been 10 years since I opened one up. And it was a 98 too.
