New guy looking to learn.

Hey guys, I'm new here and just recently got back into woodsball again after a couple of years. my old marker took a crap on me so I stopped playing for a while. I am familiar with the 98 custom in its ease of dis assembly and what not. Like I said I just recently got a 98 custom serial no. 1094789 ACT. My question is... Is this a good easily customizable model? as far as E-grips, cyclone feed, etc. I really want to build this gun up, and modify it to be my own. I would love any ideas. Thanks!

Re: New guy looking to learn.

If you are looking for internal mods, stocks and Cyclone, those are still available. More cosmetic items like barrel shrouds, handguards, body kits and such things, those have fallen mostly by the wayside, some are still available but can be pricey.

Just play and figure out how to suit your marker to your playing style. Upgrades can get pricey quick....If you have any people you play with that have an egripped 98 or cyclone or whatever see if they will let you play a game with it to see if you REALLY want/like/need it before dropping the money on the part.

That's what I do. or when I've got money I can spend on my marker or gear instead of buying something right away I'll go play. then at the end of the day think about what mod would help improve my style of play. After my last outing I've decided instead of upgrading my gun I'm purchasing a good set of knee pads as a result of an epic tumble down hamburger hill

Re: New guy looking to learn.

I do not like ACT 98's because I find that they have a decreased rate of fire. IMO if you use a powered hopper and a standard 98 you can get about the same Rate of Fire of an A-5 with a powered hopper. (to be fair my only experience with a ACT model had a seriously rusty bolt)

Re: New guy looking to learn.

Wow, Thanks for the many welcomes fellas! And yes I do play to figure out what I want out of my equipment. I am currently just doing small mods like 10'' Apex barrel with tip, and a quick cock from Maddog. just little stuff. And I got a damn good deal on this marker and gear. I picked up the 98 a tipp mask, 2 pods and a 500 bag of paint and a 9oz c02. the gun is brand new with only one 9oz can of c02 shot through it. works like a dream. only problem is the front sight spring is broke. found one for a dollar though so thats good. I do play woodsball when I can. anything from thin tree lines too thick brush. so I use a range of different shooting styles, from blowing through alot of paint to just one or two shots at the right moments. unpredictable scenarios. split into teams and start at either side of the woods blow an airhorn and start playing. haha. thanks guys.

Re: New guy looking to learn.

Dont go crazy with upgrades unless you plan to play often.

As stated earlier things get expensive even when buying used and the resale on most tippmann products go down fairly quick IMO.

Esthetic upgrades should be last.
Shoulder stocks can be useful but, for the cost I would rather buy a compressed air tank over a stock.

Any time I had a tippy without a front feed elbow spring I would just tighten the front bolt extra tight which worked fine on some.

Did you get any gun lube with it?
