I'll start with a few thats been asked.

Yes, and functions the same as the A-5 cyclone.

No, see the photo below.

Techenimga: The spacing is different for the takedown pins on the endcap. The A5's would be to small to fit on an X7. Likewise the X7's would be to big for an A5.

It is easily attached and removed by two push pins. The shroud itself slides over the front part of the X7, which is slightly recessed... and yes, its quite secure.

Yes, the X7 hopper fits the A-5 Cyclone

1. The X7 front bolt is identical to the A-5 one. My A-5 came with it, so I assume its a stock piece. FYI, there's no oring inside that front bolt on either marker, but there's one on the outside.

2. Airline is braided steel, with a black rubber coating over it.

Tippmann stated that the individual parts for the X7 won't be available until the beginning of 2007. Figuring in the delayed shipment of the intial X7's, I say early Feb at the latest.

The cyclone bodies are the same size and height. They look identical except the paddles are a different color, and the porting on the feed cyclinder.

Yes and no. Its the same, except the X7 powertube has two holes in the side, instead of one. After looking at the inside of the X7 receiver halves, there are two holes.

One is for the cyclone, and the other I assume is for an RT system. The two holes in the powertube allows better air flow into both these systems. This would appear to solve air starving issues that the A-5 faced when an RT was hooked up. I can't confirm this, but I'm pretty sure that this is the case.

Yes. The X7 rear bolt is the new rear bolt that was previously released for the A-5. That rear bolt and insert can be found here:

Single A-5 triggers would be to short, and you would literlly have a nub for a trigger. Double triggers would most likely work, but would only be slightly longer than the currect single trigger on the X7. To use an A-5 double trigger on the X7, a double trigger guard or no guard would be required.

The X7 single trigger would work on the A-5, but would be slightly longer than the single trigger on the A-5. In this case a double trigger guard or no guard would be required to use the X7 trigger on the A-5.

Some slight modification may be needed to get them to fit properly in both cases.

**UPDATE ON THIS QUESTION**
I place the X7 trigger into my A-5 grip with a double guard on. I had to fight to get the safety threw, but finally managed to. Regardless of where the safety was, the trigger would not move. Upon inspection, I noticed that the A-5 grip frame would need to be modified because of how the X7 trigger expands.

Yes.

When I compared them, they looked exactly the same. The A-5 paddles fit the X7 cyclone as well. The new paddles do offer some flexibility compared to the old style.

Yes. The barrel adapter on the X7 is threaded the same as the A-5.

I noticed that some barrels may have difficulty fitting into the opening of the shroud. I found that to be the case with my 4" C-Series barrel. I started examining the shroud to see what could be done to make it fit, when I noticed what appeared to be a spacer. I took the shroud apart, and indeed found one. I removed it and my C-Series barrel fit.

No, they are different. The X7 powertube internals have more of it's surface milled. I believe that allows better for better air flow to the ball.

Top: X7 powertube internals, Bottom: A-5 powertube internals

Top: X7 powertube internals, Bottom: A-5 powertube internals

No. The A-5 LPK valve has more of its surface area milled off.

Left: X7 powertube valve, Right: A-5 LPK powertube valve

Top: A-5 LPK powertube valve, Bottom: X7 powertube valve

baldusi: The holes are 1.60mm (.063 or 1/16"). There are 8 of them per side. (measurements were taken using digital calipers)

Please note that there are 2 rows of eight holes. As soon as I can find my calipers, I will measure the cylinder and porting from end to end to get the spacing measurements.

The stock X7 trigger safety, and A-5 trigger safety are incompatible without first modifing both. When I attempted to insert the X7 safety in, I only goes so far due to its design that locks the safety into the X7 grip. I then took the trigger assembly out and inserted the X7 safety, and attempted to use the safety and fire selections. It remained in safety the entire time. Upon further inspection I realised that the trigger itself would also have to be modified. The photo below highlights these areas in red.

Top: A-5 trigger assembly and safety, Bottom: X7 trigger assembly and safety

I placed the X7 valve into my A-5 powertube and reassembled my A-5. I gassed her up, and she shot fine. I chrono'ed and my A-5 had a slightly higher FPS. I adjusted it, and put some paint threw her. Shot fine, and when I rechrono'ed the FPS was around where I had adjusted it to.

Yes, the stock X7 and A-5 tombstones are different. Neither one is cross compatible even with modification.

Yes, and once again Tippmann has upgraded to a better and stiffer ratchet. It appears this new X7 ratchet is made from the same material as the cyclone paddles.

After comparing the the shroud to the A-5, I determined that with some milling/modding of the front of the A-5 that the shroud could be used. However, the X7 has extra holes for quick strip pins at the front while the A-5 does not. Where the holes are at on the X7, there are bolts/nuts in that location. Those two bolts help maintain tension on the barrel adapter to help keep it from prematurely coming loose. The amount of work that would be required to do this mod is atleast a medium skill level due to the milling/mounting involved.

I spoke with Tippmanns R&D section about the Cyclone sprockets (paddles) and the ratchet. Both are made from Pellethane.

Pellethane thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers range from hard to soft and can be fabricated by a variety of methods from injection molding to extrusion to blow molding. These elastomers offer a combination of properties rarely seen in an engineering thermoplastic. Whether you need clarity and abrasion resistance, tensile strength and chemical resistance, or any other combination of properties.

Just as a FYI, the tan colored ratchet is no longer being produced.... that also came from Tippmann.

The X7 Grip won't work on the A-5, and the A-5 grip won't work on the X7.

The push pin holes don't line up, the X7 trigger assembly sit to high for the A-5, the A-5 trigger assembly sits to low for the X7, and the grip frames are styled differently where it mounts onto the receiver halves.

techenigma: No they will not. The actual trigger setups are different between the A5 and the X7. Even the way the entire trigger group/grip fit on the X7 is different than the A5.

There are pictures, and a discussion along these lines here: A5-X7 Trigger setups

It is toward the bottom of that post

Yes. All current X7, and A-5 ratchets are interchangable at this time.

Zues: I haven't experienced any in my cyclone.

Zues: Viper of Viper Scenarios talked to tippmann today and reported the following on PBNATION.

Okay...just in from inside Tippmann...

The "selector switch" will be utilized in the Egrip, but will be a three-position switch.
* Safe
* Semi
* User-programmable (meaning you can choose F/A, ramping, burst, whatever...or still semi for fields where only semi is allowed)
