98 RT help please!

OK, so I was helping this guy get his gun fixed last night. He has the 98 c with RT and the cyclone. I went through the entire gun and cyclone cleaning it and removing old nasty oil and broken paint from all the internals and also completely rebuilt the cyclone. The reason he wanted me to fix it was because when the trigger was pulled, it would go into a very intense mode of automatic firing and would not stop until the cocking handle was held. The cyclone is perfect with new oil and a new paddle. The insides are clean and paint and dirt free, fresh lube etc...

I took the arm out of the RT and cleaned and oiled it and it looks to be in good condition. Everything is setup the way it should be yet it still does this no matter how much you adjust the RT screw, velocity etc... Mine did this when I installed a new powertube but all I had to do was put a new Oring on the hammer and problem solved.

My 98 c has the old style "pull style" sear and spring with the closed RT cylinder. This 98 that I was working on last night was a newer model 98 that had the Egrip/RT ready grip and open ended cylinder. Also, after it went into this crazy auto mode, the RT pin would seize up so that you couldn't pull the trigger again and would have to release the tank to get the pressure out. I AM AT A LOSS, HELP ME OUT!!

OK, nevermind. In the time that I took waiting around here, I was able to contact Tippmann. It needs a new sear and rear bolt. They are rounded off and can't hold the rear bolt correctly. Its still under warranty.

Re: 98 RT help please!

Its really not that big of a deal to get a new rear bolt and sear. You can pick them up from tippmannpros.com for $11.70 for the sear and $11.00 for the rear bolt. plus S+H. This gun I was working on was under warranty still so it was free.

While you are in there pulling that all apart, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to throw in a new spring on that bolt either.

Re: 98 RT help please!

Well, if it's not getting air then you need to look at all the parts that supply the air. 1.) do you have the correct powertube with the screw coming out of the side? 2.) is the air line hooked up to the powertube? 3.) did you loosen the small adjusting screw on the side where the air line connects? 4.) do you hear any leaks?

Also, try putting a drop of oil into the piston area. The little metal pin has a plunger on the back side of it. If that is not lubricated it may have a hard time getting pressure behind it.

One more note, if you are low on air, the RT system may not operate.
