From experience this would have to be stated as part of the "RULES OF THE GAME", way before any paint started to fly. Then again, I would not go without a fight. So, if it isnt part of the "rules"....Meat shields are not allowed at the fields that I have played at. Private field that I play at...it is allowed!!!

Hmm... this reminds me when I helped my team and another do a mock up hostage scenario just for giggles to see if it was plausible. I actually took the challenge to be the hostage and we made some rules that would determine whether the hostage taking team would be successful or not while the hostage rescue team had to execute very well planned tactics in a situation that mimics real life style. In other words, things don't always go according to plan. Many things can make a situation go out of control. Boy oh boy, I sure got a ton of freakin' welts and not to mention, being the camera man the same freakin' day. Not once but 27 times I got hit in the crotch. By the way, this was at the indoor field about half an hour south of me. It was hilarious to watch me get shot up. Turns out, we ended up using the idea for the tournament we had planned. It came out quite successful from what I've heard since being on my own for a while.

So long as safety rules are in place, hostage scenario can be quite fun although we will never use taking a hostage tactic as it's just too plain dangerous. Have a hostage at the start of the game makes it that much more challenging and much safer.
